About Us

Steven L. Miller began writing appeals in 1985 as a student intern with the Wisconsin Attorney General's Office, Criminal Appeals Division.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison Law school in 1987 in the top 10% of his class.  From 1987 until 1994 he maintained a civil and criminal litigation practice with a heavy emphasis on appeals.  Since 1996 his practice has been exclusively appellate.  He has successfully handled in excess of 100 cases post-verdict.  Steven L. Miller now offers his appellate services state-wide to both clients and trial lawyers.  His services are flexible to meet the precise needs of the client or lawyer.  He will accept referrals directly; he will assist other lawyers with their cases; or he will co-author.  Steven L. Miller is also certified with the Wisconsin State Public defender in the following areas: Levels 1, 2 and 3 (all criminal cases); Chapters 48 and 938 (Juvenile); Chapters 51 & 55 (Mental Health, Guardianship & Protective Placement); and Termination of Parental Rights.  Steven is currently on the Board for the Appellate practice Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Nancy B. Miller practices exclusively in the area of termination of parental rights.  She began prosecuting termination cases as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for Brown County in 1990.  In 1994 she went into private practice and has since litigated termination cases throughout the State of Wisconsin. She has successfully completed in excess of 200 termination cases from trial through appeal, many of them involving the Indian Child Welfare Act.  Nancy currently contracts with some 11 Wisconsin County human services departments as their termination of parental rights litigator or consultant. She also provides services to private clients.   In addition to her extensive termination practice, Nancy also trains Wisconsin child protection social workers through a variety of training services and partnerships and directly with county human service agencies.  Her trainings have included: "Court Testimony for Social Workers" "Adoption and Safe Families Act" "Legal Aspects of Child Welfare Core 103" and "Safeguarding Confidentiality" and specific termination related workshops.
